Source?

All the petrol processed in the world is consumed virtually on the spot, take down any production capacity anywhere and you'll create all kind of nasty side effects, now take down multiple major actors/transport roads and you get the current situation

That's not a source. And it also directly contradicts your assertion.

Petroleum products are refined and consumed near the point of use because they're not very shelf stable. Petrol is not shipped internationally in any significant quantity, neither is diesel for these reasons.

Take down any production capacity anywhere and you'll have shortages locally but crude oil supplies will divert to other refining capacity and fall in price.

Conversely take down crude oil supply...

It's still a global trade. Russia - India trade is directly affected, so that affects the supply of diesel out of India for those who normally buy from India. So they buy from somebody else. And so on down the line.

Diesel is shelf stable for 6-12 months, which is long enough to ship anywhere in the world.

Basic supply & demand. Russia has banned the export of gas & diesel, and is buying gas from India.

I think AI was mentioned in the article...

> But in terms of value and innovation Chinese lenses have a place

What's the innovation?

Making goods, cheap and accessible at scale is the innovation.

This China craze won't last long. The Chinese PV export market crashed couple months ago(down 30% YoY), and it seems like their domestic auto market crashed too(down ~25% YoY since August).

ChatGPT feels me Q1 2026 that Chinese PV exports were up 15% on Q1 2025 (cell exports up 64%).

What happened since then?

The PV stuff was just pull forward to beat a subsidy change.

As for cars, sales of ICE were down 40℅, BEV grew 1.7℅

Hopefully the people that find autonomous cars great are the bad drivers of today. They will transition into that and leave the better drivers of today to drive in peace.

Didn't they just launch autonomous Ubers in London last week?

You can request a ride via Uber. They aren't building the tech. I find it a bit unclear who is operating the fleet (Uber or Wayve), but that seems irrelevant when the question is whether the vehicles' autonomous technology is safe.

Yes, instead of fixing the problem let's go back 100 years and start walking everywhere. It's easy for someone that works for home or an in office, but most people truly rely on their cars, otherwise they would lose hours everyday...

Public transit is not "100 years back". London, uk is not exactly backwards looking in that sense, and the vast majority of people use trains/metto to go to work.

I walk 10k steps a day on a normal day, only drive when necessary to go out of my normal routes. This has an added benefit of keeping me, an aging programmer, in shape (as well as other relevant activities).

Nothing dramatic about it at all.

Most people in societies built car-first/only (USA) truly rely on their cars. The situation is not the same in big parts of Europe and Asia. We can go 100 years forward and fund public infrastructure which is better for the environment, more safe and gives a much higher socio-economic value (except for the highway lobby).

> but most people truly rely on their cars, otherwise they would lose hours everyday...

They lose hours, lives, and a boatload of money every day in the current state. Removing the reliance on cars will improve those things.

It is healthy to walk. You should be walking probably an hour a day at least if we are being honest. You are made to hunt and forage all day, not sit down. Use it or lose it.

And those CDL drivers go at speed limit because they have to cover as much distance as possible, meanwhile Waymo and similar driverless tech frequently go 10km/h below speed limit. I believe there would be much less incidents by humans if they too were to drive at those speeds.

Just for context, when Boeing completed the 747 Airbus wasn't even a thing. 5 decades later they have caught up in most categories and even surpassed in some. Who knows, maybe something similar will happen again?

Airbus did not come into existence out of nowhere. It is the result of merging some companies that had some ancestry going back to the time of aviation pioneers.

It's a posterboy project for the EU and for all its insane complexities and French people, it's working! I am watching Belugas land here in Hamburg almost every day :)

Almost nothing starts from 0, its not a very smart idea to ignore generations of experience and wrong decisions.

Tesla also started with musk joining already well working EV startup, didn't it.

Nothing was "started" by him joining. Name was the same and they were already producing car(s). He did bring his skills for fraud and puffery though.

Name a car they were producing before when Elon became the company’s chairman. With their three employees.

Revisionist history because of your feelings is still wrong.

Tesla was not a well working startup - they had no funds and he was the fourth employee. They had some ideas about making an electric car.

It's like hitting a local minima, it was given a technique, it brute forced it for a lot of money and slightly improved the result. But nothing new was discovered, no new mathematical tool was built, only a huge file that no one will read or build on.
